Athens, Greece – August 25, 2025 – Global leading energy storage company, Jinko ESS, a subsidiary corporation of Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. today announced the complete delivery of its customized nominal capacity 123.8MWh Jinko ESS’s utility energy storage system for Athens International Airport (AIA) and the initiation of the commissioning and site acceptance tests. The project, deploying 36 containerized units with 3.44MWh nominal capacity each, has seen all equipment arrive on-site. Commissioning has officially commenced, marking the critical final phase of construction for one of the world’s largest PV-ESS self-consumption project at an airport facility.

This milestone achievement follows the strategic partnership agreement signed between Jinko ESS and leading Greek EPC company kIEFER TEK in June 2024. Upon completion, AIA will leverage the Jinko ESS Utility G1 system to achieve storage of clean energy produced on site for self-consumption year-round minimizing if not zeroing dependence on the traditional grid. The system will serve as core infrastructure supporting the airport’s goal of reaching carbon net zero by 2025, as per ROUTE 2025 corporate initiative setting a benchmark for green transformation in global transportation hubs.

Roberto Murgioni, Regional General Manager of Jinko ESS Europe, stated at the project site: "The full arrival of the system is the result of seamless collaboration between Jinko and the kIEFER TEK team. We are progressing commissioning hour by hour to ensure the system is operational before the Christmas peak travel season, transforming this gateway to an ancient city into a pioneer of the Net zero-carbon era."
