Recently, the globally recognized research firm Wood Mackenzie released its 2026 Global Energy Storage System Integrator Market Share Report. According to the data, global battery energy storage installations surpassed 320 GWh in 2025, with Chinese enterprises capturing 76% of the global market. Notably, Jinko ESS secured a top-three market share in Latin America. Serving as a testament to the company's comprehensive regional strength, Jinko ESS’s 340.2 MW / 1,069 MWh AC-coupled energy storage project in north-central Chile is advancing its delivery on schedule as a GWh-level benchmark case.

Dual Challenges: Grid Volatility and Extreme Environments

North-central Chile boasts some of the world's most abundant solar resources, driving a continuous rise in PV generation. However, this high penetration of renewable energy introduces typical grid integration pressures: power surpluses during peak daytime generation and supply shortages during evening demand peaks. This supply-demand mismatch causes severe price volatility and grid frequency instability, restricting further renewable energy absorption.

Concurrently, the project's four sites face multiple environmental tests—high seismic risks, severe wind and sand erosion, and seasonal humidity reaching up to 100%—posing significant challenges to long-term equipment reliability.

System Advantages:

The Jinko ESS solution utilizes the 0.25P 5MWh SunTera liquid-cooling energy storage system, delivering a total project capacity of 340.2 MW / 1,609 MWh with a designed charge/discharge duration of approximately 5 hours. The system stores surplus solar power during the day and discharges it during evening peaks, effectively reducing curtailment and smoothing peak-to-valley load differences.

Architecturally, the AC-coupled design enables the energy storage system to connect independently to the PV plant's substations, allowing for flexible deployment and coordinated dispatch across the four sites. Paired with millisecond-level dynamic response capabilities, the system can execute grid frequency regulation and voltage support commands with high precision.

Regarding environmental adaptability, the system integrates advanced seismic design compliant with IEEE 693 standards, robust sandstorm protection, and adaptive smart thermal management, effectively mitigating condensation risks even at 100% humidity. On the safety front, self-developed BMS logic, early thermal runaway warnings, and fire suppression strategies compliant with international standards like NFPA 69 and UL 9540 work in synergy to provide multi-layered security for GWh-level operations.

Upon delivery, this project will create quantifiable value for the client through enhanced grid stability, reduced curtailment rates, and optimized full-lifecycle O&M costs.

The Wood Mackenzie report concludes that global energy storage competition has evolved beyond mere price and capacity wars; comprehensive capabilities encompassing policy compliance, technological innovation, and financing support are now critical determinants of a company's long-term viability. Jinko ESS will continue to deepen its footprint in the Latin American market, leveraging technological innovation and proven project execution to solidify its regional competitive edge and contribute enduring value to the global zero-carbon transition.
